Sigmund Freud taught us that our childhood experiences form the basis of our perceptions in adult life. How could the houses I love and design look otherwise, then, considering the house I grew up in during those significant formative first six years of my life? The hôtel particulier in which we found ourselves in the late 1960s, hidden at the end of the Rue Pierre-Guérin in the haute 16th arrondissement, is grand, by any measurement, for Paris. Carla BruniSadly I have few pictures of the interior, however my memories were sufficiently intact that when I saw this photograph in Vanity Fair of Carla Bruni at home, I suddenly recognized the staircase and floor as ours! Thus I came to find that the hôtel particulier Rue Pierre-Guérin had become the Elysée privé for Bruni and Sarkozy. I wish I knew more of the history of the house, and could see it today!
